North Melbourne Park Expansion Heritage Study

Heritage Study

An assessment of five public recreation reserves for the City of Melbourne Open Space Planning Unit, as part of their Parks Expansion program.

In response to the rapid inner-city growth Melbourne is experiencing, the City of Melbourne sought to expand some select parks to provide further recreational space.

Many of these parks reflect over a century of the development of Melbourne’s early, urban communities and include some significant examples of nineteenth-century public open spaces and recreational facilities. Some parks also contain significant plantings.

GML Heritage Victoria (formerly Context) assessed and made recommendations on the heritage values of the chosen parks to assist the Council in their program.
