The Living Heritage Audit was a Victorian State Government initiative to provide a snapshot of the condition of the State’s heritage.

Context (now GML Heritage) was engaged by Heritage Victoria to provide a ‘health check’ of a cross section of significant places around the state.

The audit involved inspecting over 150 State-significant properties throughout Victoria in both metropolitan and rural locations. Audited places represented a range of sites from rural homesteads and civic buildings to former railway stations and industrial complexes. Context assessed current conditions and made recommendations for conservation works.

The results of the project informed government heritage programs to address issues in the care and management of the Victoria’s historic places, and included a major injection of funds to the Living Heritage Program, a grants program designed to safeguard and reactivate Victoria’s key heritage resources.
