Maroondah Water Supply System Conservation Management Plan
The Maroondah water supply system is historically significant as the second engineered water supply system constructed to supply Melbourne, after the Yan Yean system, and one of the oldest surviving water supply systems in Victoria.
The system is also significant for its strong associations with individuals who influenced the development of Melbourne’s water system, including William Davidson, C.E. Oliver and E.G. Ritchie, as well as the renowned landscape gardener Hugh Linaker who implemented much of the planting in the reservoir park.
Context (now GML Heritage) prepared a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) for the Maroondah water supply system on behalf of Melbourne Water.
The CMP involved the preparation of a historical and physical analysis of the Maroondah system and an analysis of the heritage significance of the system as a whole and of its individual components.
The team also developed conservation policies and a management strategy to guide its future use and development in a manner that minimises impact on its significance.
