Lake Tyers Historic Precinct
Situated approximately 12 kilometres from Nowa Nowa in East Gippsland, Lake Tyers (or Bung-yarnda) has long been a place of significance to the Victorian Aboriginal community; particularly as the site of a mission which was established in 1861.
Working with Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust and Aboriginal Affairs Victoria, Context developed a Conservation Management Plan for the historic precinct at the former mission site to assist the restoration and maintenance of historic buildings at Lake Tyers.
Context took a consultative, practical and significance-based approach to the project. Key components of the work included researching a contextual history of the area and onsite investigation and assessment.
There was also significant consultation with the Lake Tyers community to identify core policy and funding priorities. The Plan was produced in both detailed and summarised form to support easy communication of its findings.
