Video: Testing Ancient Soils in Parramatta
While undertaking an archaeological excavation on behalf of the Parramatta Light Rail, an opportunity arose for further exploration of the Parramatta Sand Body, a soil landscape that runs along the Parramatta River.
Our team worked with Dr Stephen Gale, Sedimentologist and PhD student Molly Quinn from the University of Sydney to explore the age and formation of the Sand Body. In this video, GML Graduate Consultant, Talei Holm further explains the process, while the soil cores are prepared for further analysis.
Over the coming months scientists hope to identify the environmental conditions under which the deposits were formed, deepening our understanding of human interactions and alluvial influences in Parramatta.
