GML Wins Best Historical Archaeology Report

GML has won the Judy Birmingham Award for Best Historical Archaeology Heritage Report at the recent ASHA Awards for the Former Schofield Aerodrome.

The Australian Society for Historical Archaeology (ASHA) Awards promote excellence in historical archaeology in Australia. This year, they hold additional significance as ASHA celebrates 50 years of operation.

The Former Schofields Aerodrome Excavation Report describes the findings of archaeological excavations undertaken on behalf of Defence Housing Australia. The site was established as an airfield by the Royal Australian Air Force in World War II and remained in use until it was decommissioned in 1994. It is now a residential area. The outcome of the excavations are included in the award-winning, plain English Excavation Results report.

The judges commented that:

The report is an innovative example of a public-facing outcome of archaeological research, using excellent graphic design, contemporary and archival photography to effectively communicate archaeological information for a non-specialist audience.

We are so proud of our team of passionate specialists, who enjoy communicating the outcomes of archaeology. This award recognises both their commitment and expertise – congratulations!
