GML Sponsors ASHA Conference 2019

GML is pleased to support the Australian Society of Historical Archaeology (ASHA) Conference this year, as a Platinum Sponsor. This year’s conference theme is ‘Colonial Futures’.

The conference promises to generate fascinating discussion and insight about the way Australia’s colonial past is interpreted, particularly as we reckon with the difficult truths at the heart of nationhood and sovereignty.

GML Principal, Dr Tim Owen is presenting at the conference this year, in the session about Settler Colonialism and Contact. He will share new ideas and theory relating to Aboriginal ‘visibility’ within the early British colony, notably in the use of imported flint material.  He will discuss current interpretation of Aboriginal heritage and the impacts of colonialism.  This work builds on recent GML projects, such as the Conservation Management Plan for First Government House and the identification of bipolar worked flint Aboriginal artefacts in Randwick.
