Our Contribution to Bushfire Recovery
The recent bushfires that have devastated millions of hectares in Australia have had a profound effect on our unique ecosystems, animals, places and communities.
Life as we know it has changed. Many people have felt distress, uncertainty, loss and grief. But we have also seen extraordinary kindness, courage and generosity from our community that provides radiant hope that together we can and will recover.
At GML and Context, we’re taking the following action to support these recovery efforts:
- Offering our team additional flexibility to work from home or take annual leave because of the adverse conditions. We are also offering special leave arrangements to assist our team who are volunteering in support of emergency services and in defence of communities.
- Donating $5000 to Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities, to the Red Cross Disaster and Recovery Relief Plan, WIRES, the RFS and CFA.
Additionally, GML Principal, Catherine Forbes is contributing to the Blue Shield Australia and Australia ICOMOS Heritage Toolkit for Bushfire Recovery. The Rapid Assessment Form for Damage to Heritage is now available for heritage professionals and Council officers. Accompanying Guidelines are soon to be released. Catherine is highly experienced in this area following years of post-disaster recovery work in Australia, Nepal and New Zealand.
Our hearts and minds are with those affected by the devastating bushfires. We will continue to review our response as the situation unfolds and once again we offer our thanks to those who so selflessly protect us.
