GML’s Steven Barry Wins Inaugural Australia ICOMOS President’s Award

Our heartfelt congratulations to Steven Barry, GML Senior Heritage Consultant, for winning the inaugural Australia ICOMOS President’s Award for Young/Early Career Professionals. The award was presented at the annual Australia ICOMOS Conference at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, 6–7 October 2016.

The award recognised Steven’s work on the Mulwala Homestead Precinct, a pastoral property in the NSW Riverina. The project involved a wide range of physical conservation works to a significant collection of nineteenth and twentieth century rural structures. Steven also led the innovative use of 3D scanning techniques to reconnect the site with the community.

The judge’s comments noted that the project displayed ‘a meticulous approach to conservation of the vernacular,’ which is a credit to Steven and the whole team.

Steven thanked Australia ICOMOS for the initiative and recognised the contributions that young people are making across the heritage industry. He commended all young professionals to join the organisation. He also thanked GML’s client, the Department of Defence and Thales Australia, and the whole GML team for their contributions to the project.
