Case Study: Think Local! Education Kit
Think Local! is an education kit which encourages kids to celebrate history and heritage at school. It emerged from Lindfield Public School’s centenary in 2003—an opportunity to celebrate the school’s history within a learning framework. Since 2003, the idea has developed into a stand-alone resource, suitable for celebrating the history of any primary school or community.
Think Local! was developed by experts at Astarte Resources, GML and the school’s community. The project reflects the energy and ideas of enthusiastic students, teachers and parents.
The kit is on a CD-ROM and has curriculum content, teacher notes, a range of activities, resource material and even a program for a school-wide celebration. The activities are presented as stand-alone modules that can be undertaken by individual classes, full year groups or the whole school.
Helping children learn about heritage and the history of their local communities is a vital step in encouraging them to care for important places and rituals.
Think Local! is an engaging resource for schoolchildren throughout New South Wales.
