Case Study: Sydney Harbour Bridge
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is an icon of Sydney and is also integral to the international image of Australia.
The Roads and Traffic Authority commissioned GML to investigate ideas to improve public awareness of the bridge’s heritage significance. We prepared a staged interpretation plan that was finalised just before the bridge’s 75th anniversary in 2007.
For this multi-phased project, GML reviewed existing interpretation and research into visitors’ experiences and perceptions of the bridge. We consulted government, private-sector and Aboriginal stakeholders throughout the interpretation planning process. We also consulted education specialists to develop curricular linkages for schools in New South Wales. The interpretation initiatives we developed are now being implemented by the Roads and Traffic Authority and project partners.
