Archival Recording

Archival Recording

Archival records of demolished and altered heritage items provide an important legacy for future researchers and those who want to tell or display the story of a place.

Development consent authorities often require archival recording of an item prior to any work being carried out before or during demolition.

Requirements for an archival recording vary according to the type and significance of the item and the reason for the preparation of the specific record. Archival recording may include photographs and measured drawings. In some cases an integrated record is required comparing a combination of historic documents, photographs, drawings and/or other relevant source material.

Photographical Recordings

The level of photographic recording generally reflects the level of significance of an item. Our professional photographers have substantial experience at photographing local and/or state significant heritage sites of all types ranging from small residential and commercial sites to large industrial and hospital sites, in digital, video and SLR formats. GML’s archival recordings are undertaken in accordance with widely recognised guidelines and standards.

Measured Drawings

Measured drawings are usually only required for those items of greater significance. Our team has extensive experience at preparing measured drawings in all types of media including manually on paper or digitally using CAD systems.
