The Goods Line is an award-winning pedestrian and cycle way that connects George Street, Sydney, to the Powerhouse Museum along a historic rail line.

GML assessed heritage impacts and planned heritage interpretation.

As part of a large multidisciplinary team led by ASPECT Studios and Chrofi, GML identified the concepts for heritage interpretation, prepared the interpretive content and selected the historical imagery used on signage designed by Deuce.

GML named the project ‘The Goods Line’, which is celebrated in neon on both sides of the Pyrmont Underbridge. This rare mid-nineteenth-century industrial structure is now used as a pedestrian walkway.

We also advised on the underbridge’s conservation and adaptive re-use.

Our assessment of heritage values and identification of the potential development impacts helped inform design documentation and the development approval process. Today the rail corridor is abuzz with students, city workers and visitors, and a significant piece of Sydney’s industrial heritage has been reconnected to the contemporary urban experience.
