GML has provided a range of heritage services to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure for the Catherine Fields (Part) Precinct, a new residential community which is part of the South West Sydney Growth Centres Precinct Planning strategy. In 2010 GML prepared a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) for Oran Park House (located within the proposed precinct), supplemented in 2012 by a Schedule of Conservation and Maintenance works, as well as a Landscape Management Plan for the site.
In 2011 GML prepared a non-Indigenous Heritage Assessment for the expanded study area of the Catherine Fields (Part) Precinct, which identified and documented all places of heritage significance within the precinct, and provided the significance analysis needed to engage the heritage values during the masterplanning process. The GML team collaborated with the site Masterplanner undertaking the landscape and visual analysis, and provided input regarding opportunities and impacts on heritage values. Following the exhibition phase of the draft Indicative Layout Plan and complementary Development Control Plan, GML provided ongoing heritage advice which responded to key heritage issues arising from stakeholder comments. GML then prepared a Heritage Interpretation Strategy for the precinct, integrating heritage items into the final layout plan for the new suburb.
GML’s ongoing involvement in this project has allowed for heritage values to be identified early within the planning process and thereby integrated into the planning for the new community of Catherine Fields.
