Heritage Significance Assessment

City of Sydney Council

Sydney LGA

Belmore Park is one of Sydney’s earliest gazetted parks (1868) and it has undergone considerable change over its 145-year history, with incremental changes partially obscuring its significant layout and character.

GML was engaged by City of Sydney Council to prepare a Heritage Study for Belmore Park in Haymarket, Sydney. The study was to inform the development of a master plan for the park.

The park is intricately linked to Central Station and Railway Square, a major transport interchange to the west of the station (southwest of the park). GML assessed the heritage significance of the park and its components, and provided an action strategy for conserving and interpreting its heritage values. An extensive collection of historic photographs, graphics and plans were used in the study to guide the masterplanners.
