GML Wins at 2017 NSW National Trust Heritage Awards

GML is thrilled to announce we have won a 2017 NSW National Trust Heritage Award for interpretation.

At the awards gala lunch hosted by Wendy Harmer on 28 April 2017, ‘Alchemy: The Lustre of Hill End’—a new exhibition within the Hill End Heritage Centre—received an award in the Education and Interpretation category.

Managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), and located in the Central West, Hill End Historic Site is a 1850s gold mining village with a rich industrial heritage. Showcasing the history and significance of Hill End, ‘Alchemy: The Lustre of Hill End’ has helped reimagine and revitalise the visitor experience at Hill End.

Working with the NPWS, Trigger Design (interpretive design), D’Luscious (film), Brian Shirley (projection), Macadamia (multimedia) and the State Library of NSW (multimedia), GML planned and prepared the exhibition content. GML collaborated with members of the local community, reviewed collections and selected moveable objects for display, selected historical images and developed content for exhibition panels, labels and multimedia, ensuring that the place’s significance was presented in ways that would appeal to contemporary audiences and reflect the character of its past.

The resulting exhibition combines sensitivity to a significant heritage place with spatial, physical and digital elements, creating an immersive, multisensory experience. It is designed to stimulate visitors to explore other attractions within and surrounding Hill End, and discover its history and still unfolding stories.

The judges were particularly impressed by the quality of ‘Alchemy: The Lustre of Hill End’, which was well received by the local community and visitors alike during The End festival in April 2017, attended by an estimated 6000 people.

Congratulations to all involved.
