Geoff Ashley—BAppSc BArch

Geoff Ashley

Geoff Ashley, Senior Associate, is a built heritage specialist with qualifications in architecture and more than 25 years’ experience in assessment, conservation, adaptive re-use and interpretation of heritage places in Australia and overseas.  Geoff has extensive experience working in government authorities including the Government Architects Branch, NSW Public Works Department and the Heritage and Conservation Branch, NSW Department of Environment and Planning.  Prior to joining Godden  Mackay Logan in 1996, Geoff was the Research Architect with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.  Geoff is a current member of Australia ICOMOS, DOCOMOMO Australia, the National Trust of Australia (NSW) Architectural Advisory Committee and is a corresponding member of the ICOMOS International Polar Heritage Scientific Committee.

Rod Howard—B Sc (Arch)

Rod Howard, Built Heritage Advisor, is an architectural conservation consultant with 30 years’ experience in assessing the cultural significance of buildings and sites.

Rod has extensive experience providing heritage management advice to property owners, architects and planners, as well as to local, state and federal government authorities.  For many years Rod managed a heritage consultancy practice specialising in the conservation and adaptive reuse of significant buildings and structures, as well as in the design of sensitive alterations and additions to heritage-listed properties.

Rachel Jackson—BDes (IntDes) MHertCons

Rachel Jackson, Senior Associate and Team Leader of the GML Canberra office, holds a Bachelor of Design degree in Interior Design from the University of Technology, Sydney, and a Masters in Heritage Conservation from the University of Sydney.  She has more than 10 years’ heritage experience in private practice and working with the Commonwealth government.  Rachel has prepared many conservation management plans, heritage assessments, heritage impact statements and heritage curtilage studies for a range of historic places, both in Canberra and interstate.  Prior to joining GML Rachel was a Senior Conservation Officer in the Historic Heritage Management Section of the Commonwealth Department of Environment and Heritage, where she provided technical and heritage management advice to Commonwealth agencies on the heritage provisions of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cwlth).

Anne Mackay—BA (Hons)

Anne Mackay

Anne Mackay, Senior Associate, is a historical archaeologist and leader of GML’s archaeology team.  Since joining Godden Mackay Logan in 1999, Anne has been involved in a broad range of projects, with heritage management skills extending beyond her archaeological background.  Anne was a primary researcher for the Parramatta Historical Archaeological Landscape Management Study 2000 (PHALMS)—a project that developed an innovative approach to the management of archaeological resources within Sydney’s Parramatta region.  She is also an experienced field archaeologist.

Jyoti Somerville—BSc (Arch) BArch (Hons)

Jyoti Somerville

Jyoti Somerville, Associate, is an architectural conservation consultant with over 25 years’ experience in built heritage conservation.  Jyoti is experienced in preparing heritage assessments and conservation plans, and advising local, state and federal government authorities on heritage management and development issues.  Her consulting work encompasses ‘hands on’ conservation, repair/restoration and adaptation projects for private, public and ecclesiastical buildings.  Jyoti is a former Vice President of Australia ICOMOS, a former member of the Architectural Advisory Committee of the National Trust of Australia (NSW) and a former member of the Religious Property Advisory Panel of the Heritage Council of NSW.

Natalie Vinton—BA (Hons)

Natalie Vinton holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours, majoring in Archaeology and Palaeoanthropology from the University of New England. Natalie has over 15 years’ experience in heritage management in both the private and public sectors, including roles as the Archaeologist and Heritage Specialist at the City of Sydney; Manager of the Archaeology Team at the former NSW Heritage Office, and most recently as coordinator of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage’s, multi-million dollar Heritage Assets Revitalisation Program.

She has been instrumental in public archaeology policy development in NSW and innovative heritage asset management for the NSW State Government. Natalie has served as a member of the NSW History Council and Archaeology Advisory Panel for the NSW Heritage Branch.

Anita Yousif—MPhil (Hons)

Anita YousifAnita Yousif, Associate, holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Archaeology from the University of Belgrade, and a Master of Philosophy in Classical Archaeology from the University of Sydney.  Anita is an experienced field archaeologist who has worked on a number of archaeological excavations in Australia, Cyprus, Italy and Serbia.  She is the approved Excavation Director for the State Significant Sites in NSW and has directed excavations of World Heritage Listed sites, including the Old Government House at Parramatta and the Sydney Opera House. She possess extensive knowledge in field archaeology and artefact provenance, and is skilled in the preparation of archaeological reports and research designs.

 Tim Owen—PhD, BSc (Hons)

 

Dr Tim Owen, Associate, holds a PhD in Aboriginal archaeology from Flinders University, SA, and a BSc (Hons) in International Archaeology from the University of Leicester, UK. Tim is an experienced archaeologist who has directed Aboriginal and historical archaeology projects and excavations in Australian in every State and Territory.  He is an Adjunct Lecturer at Flinders University and an Academic Associate to Sydney University.  His experience includes participation in more than 200 heritage management and archaeology projects, including roles as team leader, project manager, excavation director and facilitator.
